Have you ever seen Schlondorf's "The Tin Drum" (based on the Gunter Grass novel)? There is a scene involving eels that will make you think differently about them. I'm still queezy when I think back on it.
The book was amazing as well. The movie only covers part of the book, but is a great adaptation.
Not squids, but close.
